Moored quite literally “off the beaten track”, Spirited Away sets sail from a beautiful mooring acquired in December 2015. It’s a big plot and we’re gently turning it into a haven for both peaceful contemplation and ecological biodiversity.
The mooring overlooks miles of Warwickshire countryside, bursting with undulating hills and greenery. We have OS maps on board for those who like to go out walking and bikes/canoes are welcome – we can store them safely undercover in our workshop.
At our fingertips are the North and South Oxford canals, the Grand Union towards London, Leicester and Birmingham, and the Ashby canal. Our delightful base serves as a well-connected starting point with access to the heart of the Midlands canal system.
Rugby is a quaint town and worth a wander. The school, built in 1587, is the birthplace of Rugby football and was also Alice in Wonderland creator Lewis Carroll’s school. Draycote Water is nearby for walking and cycling. Warwick, Birmingham and Stratford-upon-Avon are all easily accessible from here too.
In the daytime, there are 5 trains an hour between Rugby and London, with some journeys less than an hour. The train station is also well-connected with trains serving both the north east and west of the country.
The M6, M1 and M45 are all within a stone’s throw, giving easy links to the motorway system.
Birmingham Airport is the closest, with East Midlands and Luton not too far away either.
