Nature Journaling

A creative weekend of getting closer to nature through deep looking and observation. Use journaling to reflect on both the world around you and yourself. Words or images, painting or drawing, prose or poetry, you can explore nature journaling in a medium that works for you. And don’t worry about ‘being good’, it’s about seeing and exploring rather than an end result. This is a lovely practice that can help us feel more connected with nature, enable us to really see the world and slow down, and it compliments meditation and creative development too. Just bring along your own journal and we’ll provide the rest.

Float by Boat weekends wouldn’t be complete without optional meditation sessions morning and night, delicious boat-made food and a pootle along the canals between journaling excursions.

Our prices are all fully inclusive, so you never have to get your wallet out on a Float by Boat break. They include home-cooked vegetarian meals, plentiful tea and cake, car parking, canal cruising and optional meditation sessions.

A 15% concessionary rate is available for students, seniors and unwaged guests.

There are 6-8 berths, including double and single beds, across 3 cabins, with 2 toilet and shower rooms.  The double, Cabin 3, can be booked for sole occupancy by 1 individual at an additional supplement of £25 per night, subject to availability.

4-6pm – Arrivals, time to have a look around and get settled in on board Spirited Away

6pm – Welcome chat talking about what to expect and practical information

7pm – Dinnertime

9pm – A gentle introduction to meditation with a pre-bedtime guided body scan and relaxation


7am – The kettle’s on for a pre-meditation cup of tea

7.30am –  A lead mindfulness meditation focused on the breath

8.15am – Breakfast

9.30am – First nature journaling session, starting with an introduction and a sit and spot

11am – Time for a cup of tea and slice of cake as we untie Spirited Away for a canal cruise

1pm – Moor up and enjoy a delicious boat-made lunch, with time to see what natural sights are around this new spot.

2.30 – 4.30pm – An afternoon cruise to our a new, serene overnight mooring spot.

5-6pm – Here’s our second nature journaling session

7pm – Boaty dinnertime

9pm – Relaxing guided body scan to set us up for bed


7am – The kettle’s on for a pre-meditation cup of tea

7.30am –  A lead mindfulness meditation

8.15am – Breakfast

9am – 10:30am – Another chance to pick up our journals and head back out to connect with the wild

10:30am – 1.15pm – One final pootle up the cut back to our mooring

1.30pm – Lunchtime

3pm – Time to say farewell and head our separate ways.
